Job Description
Summary:
Reporting to a Sergeant or Patrol Officer at Montclair State University Police Department, the Security Officer, during an assigned tour of duty, receives and dispatches emergency telecommunications in accordance with established procedures, provides assistance and protection to persons and property in and about state owned and leased buildings, office grounds, and parking areas, maintains orderly conditions, and takes the measures required to assure observance of law.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND
Responsibilities:
Gives assistance when accidents or illness occur in emergencies; summons physicians, the fire department, and/or police as may be required.
Receives and dispatches emergency telecommunications in accordance with established procedures.
Directs callers and visitors to the reception desk or to other locations, and provides desired information to callers in accordance with established procedures.
Notes and reports conditions which constitute dangers and hazards, and takes the actions necessary to assure orderly and safe conditions; sees that established safety regulations are observed.
Takes appropriate actions as to suspicious persons and conditions, and reports significant actions, occurrences and conditions.
Refers/dispatches officers to complaints involving misconduct, suspicious behavior, illegal activities, and other matters within the province of police operations and prepares reports thereon.
Obtains, records, and properly uses needed equipment, materials and supplies.
Prepares simple but clear, accurate, informative and legible reports.
Utilizes various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Management retains the right to add or change job duties at any time.
Qualifications:
REQUIRED:
Graduation from high school or vocational school or possession of an approved high school equivalent certificate.
Possession of a valid New Jersey driver's license.
Flexibility to work varied shifts in a 24 hour day including overnight shifts, including holidays.
NOTE:
This is a Civil service position.
Permanent appointment in this title requires successful completion of a 4-month working test period.
Following successful completion of the working test period as a security officer, candidates may receive a provisional appointment to the Campus Police Officer Recruit title, and those who have not already completed an approved police officer training course will participate in a six month training program.
Concurrently, candidates may apply for advancement to the Campus Police Office Recruit title based on LLE examination results and subsequent certification from the Civil Service Commission.
Following a promotional examination and certification process, candidates may receive a regular appointment and begin serving a probationary period.
After successfully serving the 12-Month Working Test Period in the Campus Police Officer Recruit title as required by the State of New Jersey, candidates may be certified and attain permanent status in the Campus Police Officer title.

SALARY RANGE:

82 - $55,991.
96 NOTE:
Salaries for internal candidates are determined by the New Jersey Civil Service Commission's formula.
Salaries for external candidates are determined up to no more than $45,315.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
