Job Description
Summary:
Reporting to the Assistant Athletic Director for Student Development and Senior Women's Administrator, the Academic Advisor for Athletes supports the overall academic success and retention of student-athletes.
This position is responsible for providing critical academic advising and support for student-athletes in order to maintain national, conference and institutional rules and regulations within the athletic program.
This position is critical to the persistent and timely graduation of student-athletes participating in the MSU intercollegiate athletic program.
This position will start in January 2024.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND
Responsibilities:
Advise students and teams as assigned both individually and in groups, regarding academic requirements toward graduation and the selection of courses and NCAA requirements.
Monitor student-athletes' progress towards a degree and academic eligibility as outlined by institutional requirements and NCAA legislation.
Assist student athletes with the exploration of major and career options.
Maintain and update advisee records through regular review of academic files and transcript evaluations.
Update and maintain navigate reports for student athletes.
Receive and provide referrals to and from faculty and other University offices for students' major considerations, academic issues, financial assistance, or personal concerns.
Provide academic support to at risk student-athletes and assist in developing academic plans.
Hire, monitor, schedule, and supervise student workers in the Academic Center for Excellence (ACE).
Assist in coordinating and monitoring programs, workshops and Power Hour study hall in the ACE.
Update and maintain all student athletes' advisor codes on banner.
Assist in coordinating programs, workshops, and community service and leadership development experiences for student-athletes.
Assist in data input for departmental academic reports and mandatory NCAA reports.
Meet with prospective student-athletes and their parents.
Promote the tenets of the NCAA Division III mission.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
REQUIRED:
Master's degree required from an accredited college or university in a related field.
Minimum three years of professional experience in academic advising.
Professional experience in an academic advising or counseling capacity.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Excellent organizational, data management and report writing skills.
Ability to work with a diverse student population, including minority and international students.
PREFERRED:
Familiarity with NCAA regulations.
Knowledge of/background in athletics and provision of academic and developmental support for student athletes, in particular with student athletes.
Experience with Banner.
Collegiate coaching experience.
Bilingual.
