Summary:
Performs various types of field and office work ensuring that properties, business places and citizens are in compliance with various municipal ordinances; performs inspection work involved in eliminating blight and restoring and/or eliminating substandard housing accommodations; performs related work as required.
Work is performed under general direction from the Fire Department Chief or designee who reviews performance for conformance to departmental policies and procedures.
Duties:
Initiates and enforces rules and regulations in relation to enforcement of various municipal ordinances.
Inspects buildings for minimum housing standards; inspects dwellings that present difficult and unusual problems; re-inspects properties after completion of repairs to ensure compliance with regulations.
Confers with individual property owners relevant to service of notices and violations; initiates necessary legal action against violators of various municipal ordinances.
Prepares clear, sound, accurate, and informative reports; establishes and maintains records and files; appears and testifies in the municipal court or other appropriate boards and agencies to obtain compliance of all laws and ordinances.
Coordinates inspections of properties requiring joint inspection with other public agencies; receives and responds to complaints of local zoning code; inspects sites where garbage, refuse, and/or debris have accumulated and orders that matters be abated or issues notices of violation of local code.
Requirements:
High School diploma or equivalent, and valid New Jersey Driver's License.
Bachelor's degree preferred; applicable experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
Must possess at least one (1) year of experience in housing inspections, building repair, building maintenance, zoning, and/or other work concerning building structures and/or building repair.
Must have knowledge of state and municipal housing codes and zoning ordinances; knowledge of provisions of municipal rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and ordinances, and the ability to analyze, interpret and apply them to specific cases.
Successful candidate will possess excellent communication skills, experience in vacant property management and property registrations, and the ability to meet with people and deal effectively with their concerns.
Proficiency in Spacial Data Logic, MS Word and Excel preferred.
Valid Inspector of Hotel and Multiple Dwellings License as issued by the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs is preferred.
Rate:
$27.
87 - $39.
46 per hour; schedule not to exceed twenty-eight (28) hours per week.
